Italian parliamentary delegation on mission to Singapore

(ANSA) – ROMA, 21 GIU – On 20 and 21 June, an Italian parliamentary delegation led by MP Ciro Maschio, President of the Bilateral Section of the Italy-South East Asia Inter-Parliamentary Union, and composed of Senator Luigi Nave and MPs Salvatore Caiata and Gerolamo Cangiano, visited Singapore.
Held in the framework of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Singapore, the mission represented one of the first official parliamentary visits to the City-State after the general elections on 3 May 2025, pending the inauguration of the new Parliament.
The delegation, assisted by Ambassador Dante Brandi and Deputy Head of Mission Fabio Conte, visited the Parliament of Singapore, where at the end of a guided tour led by MP Stephen Quick, Head of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, they met MPs Sharael Taha and Rachel Ong.
'The meeting,' reports a note, 'allowed for a broad and constructive exchange of views, and promoted direct dialogue between the two legislative assemblies, with the aim of strengthening an increasingly structured and multidimensional cooperation.
During the mission, the parliamentarians met with representatives of Temasek, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, with whom they shared the growing interest of investors towards Europe and Italy in the current global economic situation, and the possible synergies in sectors with a high innovation and sustainability content, such as those of energy transition and advanced manufacturing, but also with a high Made in Italy component such as those of fashion and design.
The delegation also met a representation of the Italian community in Singapore (Comites, Chamber of Commerce, scientific and academic community), and visited the headquarters of Silicon Box, a leading Singaporean company in advanced semiconductor packaging, which recently announced an important investment in Italy for the opening of a new industrial plant.
"This visit," said Ciro Maschio, "was an important opportunity to confirm the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary dialogue with South-East Asia, a strategic region for Italy. We believe that the relationship with Singapore, based on shared values and economic complementarity, can develop as a model of structured cooperation, from institutions to innovation and exchanges between our communities".
