Half of Val d’Aosta without electricity amid floods

(ANSA) – ROME, APR 17 – Half of the northwestern Italian region of Val d'Aosta was without electricity amid heavy flooding caused by torrential rain Thursday.
There was an interruption of electricity supply in 37 out of 74 municipalities in the region due to bad weather.
The biggest problems were from Villeneuve to Courmayeur, with a fault in a high voltage line and a cascade of blackouts.
In other cases, there were interruptions due to fallen trees.
Restoration work is described as being "often complex", officials said.
Disruptions also occurred for telephone and internet connections.
Several regional roads have been closed as a precaution since Friday evening.
The most difficult situation, due to collapses, is along the Gressoney valley road, in Fontainemore.
Traffic is slow along state road 26, in Montjovet and also outside the region, in Ivrea. (ANSA).
