In Washington Italy-United States Dialogue on Energy and Security

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, 31 OTT – The Embassy of Italy in Washington hosted the third edition of the Bilateral Dialogue on Opportunities and Challenges for Italy-US Cooperation on Energy, Security and Emerging Technologies, organized by WEC Italy and WEC USA, with the support of the Embassy and in collaboration with the Atlantic Council. "Transatlantic cooperation is essential to ensure secure, sustainable and affordable energy for our economies," commented Italy's ambassador to the United States, Marco Peronaci, who added that "the relationship between Italy and the United States in this sector, already crucial for our energy security, will be even more so to face the challenges of the future." "In a context increasingly marked by geopolitical tensions, we need to ensure resilience and innovation of energy systems and overcome all ideological preclusions to arrive at the most effective, economic and inclusive solutions," said WEC Italy President Marco Margheri. "The US experience shows how security and competitiveness can grow together, enhancing the contribution of all energy sources and effective business models. Moreover, the U.S. is now a leading partner in LNG supplies and in the development of new technology chains, from nuclear, to fission, to biofuels, to geothermal energy – both to Europe and, together, to the rest of the world. As demonstrated by the high-level participation of the U.S. government, Italy is a leading interlocutor in developing new pragmatic and innovative approaches, as well as an industrial and technological partner of absolute excellence. WEC Italy is grateful to Ambassador Marco Peronaci, and his entire team, for their focus on energy issues and dialogue between institutions, the private sector and academia." The initiative brought together more than seventy representatives of institutions, think tanks, and businesses from the two countries, creating a high-level discussion on transatlantic relations, Italy's role in Europe, and common priorities on energy transition, security of supply, infrastructure, and technology, with a focus on innovative energy supply chains and technological solutions. Discussions highlighted the need for coordinated policies and industrial partnerships capable of supporting security of supply and competitiveness, integrating energy policies, technological innovation and financial instruments to support sustainability and shared growth. The opening of the proceedings was preceded by a dinner hosted by the Italian ambassador at his residence in Villa Firenze, which provided an opportunity for high-level discussion and networking, with opening remarks by Peronaci and U.S. Secretary of State for Energy Chris Wright. Following the first day of discussions, a second networking meeting in the presence of European Union Ambassador to the United States Jovita Neliupšienė offered a moment of dialogue between institutional and industrial representatives on common development prospects. The final day was devoted to the panel "Powering AI: Energy, Infrastructure and Innovation for the AI Era," focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence on energy systems, infrastructure and technology investments. Contributors to the two-day event included those from ARERA, National Energy Dominance Council, United States Energy Association (USEA), National Nuclear Security Administration, World Bank, Edison, Eni Next, Ambiente d'Italia, CESI, Consorzio Italiano Biogas, Enea Capital, Enel North America, Newcleo, Snam, Studio Ristuccia Tufarelli & Partners, Utilitalia, Walter Tosto, WEC Italia, WEC US – EPRI, Atlantic Council, OMEC, Politecnico di Torino, Forum on International and Interregional Connectivity, Liberty University, European Council on Foreign Relations, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), CEM Biofuture Platform, Special Competitive Studies Project, Heritage Foundation, Hudson Institute, USLNG Association, Baker Hughes, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Fannon Global Advisors, Fusion Industry Association, DTT Project, GE Vernova, Glencore, Green Carbon, Oklo, PBF Energy, Rio Tinto, TechMet Ltd, Venture Global.
